PHILIPPINE FESTIVAL JUNE 2008:
Every June we celebrate Philippine Independence from its 400 year
Spanish colonization. The Philippines
emerged with a stronger identity once
it found its freedom, but still retain Spanish
cultural traditions such as dance...such as the Pandango sa Ilaw and La Jota Manileta.
In this event we added the Tinikling to our
Zumba playlist.

A group of Zumba instructors introduce Zumba to the Filipino community of Washington DC, at the annual Filipiniana Independence Fair on Pennsylvania Avenue. Destiny, leads us in a bhangra song, above. Tanya leads a flamenco, below. Paloma, in the blue, later led us in Axe and Salsa.

KENA SHRINER FUNDRAISER for CHILD BURN VICTIMS MAY 2007
Live music and bbq, Natalia Gonzales
hosted a Zumba demonstration for the motorcyclist veterans in town for Memorial
Day weekend. We put on a thirty minute
segment, rotating leads with Natalia
(Fredericksburg), Paloma Jimenez Raika
(Fairfax) and I; entertaining the crowd while
the rock band went on break. KENA is
dedicated to helping child burn victims and
advocating fire safety in schools across the country.

KENA SHRINER FUNDRAISER MAY 2007
Five Zumba instructors volunteered to lead
2 hours of Zumba to raise money for the Fairfax Animal Shelter. Hosted by animal
rights activist, Tanja Bossert, we raised
around $400 for several lucky cats and dogs...covering their medical expenses, sterilization, healthy food and toys.
